Public IoT network delivering improved disaster prevention capabilities

Date:108/11/15

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Su Tseng-chang said that a public internet-of-things (IoT) information network is being built and used to monitor air quality, seismic activity, water resources, and natural disasters. The information collected will greatly improve the government's intelligent decision-making process with respect to disaster response and the management of water, air and land resources.

Dubbed the Civil IoT Taiwan, the network is a key component of the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program, and will help to both build Taiwan into a smart nation and foster citizens' well-being, said Premier Su, following a briefing by the Office of Science and Technology on progress and public awareness of the project.

In addition to benefitting academic research, the data and information collected by the Civil IoT Taiwan will help advance the development of related industries like sensor components and data application services, Premier Su said. He directed all responsible ministries and agencies to expedite project implementation as scheduled.
