Premier attends groundbreaking for Shalun Green Energy Science City

Date:107/03/31

Premier Lai Ching-te joined a groundbreaking ceremony for the Shalun Green Energy Science City in Tainan on Saturday, expressing hope that the project will develop into an engine of growth for Taiwan’s green energy industry and drive the nation’s development toward achieving the government’s “green silicon island” goal.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the Executive Yuan and the Tainan City Government, the project already lists more than 10 domestic companies as confirmed tenants, said the premier. Many domestic and international enterprises have also signed memoranda of understanding, including UL, a global safety consulting and certification company headquartered in the U.S.; U.S.-based SEMI, an association of manufacturing equipment providers to the high-tech electronics industry; the Okinawa Smart Island Project Office; and the Taiwan Battery Association.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs indicated that planning for the Shalun Green Energy Science City began in 2016, and that 2019 will see the gradual completion of major construction throughout the site. The project is expected to carry forward energy transformation in Taiwan and provide a major boost to the nation’s innovation economy.
